3bt- Food Crisis Edition

In an effort to match handbag to outfit I switched bags before heading to work today. In doing so I left my wallet at home. The prospect of not having any food until possibly 8pm tonight made me feel positively woeful.

Then I remember the link Huda sent me a little while ago and I quickly got a grip: “While many are worrying about filling their gas tanks, many others around the world are struggling to fill their stomachs, and it is getting more and more difficult every day”

Unlike many in the world, I have full knowledge that if I make it home tonight, I will eat. In fact, I will need to control my portions and watch my carbs, that’s how much food will be available to me. Gas prices and the greed that fuels it are quickly skyrocketing prices in all areas including food, and particularly rice. I will feel this in my pocket book, but its unlikely I will die of starvation. This is not true for my counterparts around the globe.

Today, my 3 beautiful things reflects on the people who created organizations to address this problem. The people who respond to the need and give to these organizations. And the hope that these actions give to the hungry in this world.

1. freerice.com donates 20 grains of rice for each vocabulary question you answer. I’ve researched it and it seems legit, its a free way to do some good while simply taking a five minute break at your office.
2. You can also donate money directly to the World Food Program.
3. You can donate at the Hunger Site but also buy cool products, a portion of the proceeds, going to help stop hunger.

This is the year of the hungry man, Whose place is in the past… I guess somewhere along the way God must have let us all out to play Turned His back and all God’s children Crept out the back door… This is the year of the guilty man. Your television takes a stand And you find that what was over there is over here… It’s hard to love there’s so much to hate. Hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of… -George Michael

  1. I think, this time food crisis, down turn in economy (globally) and inflation will leave deep scars on many faces.Recently, I have been to 3 different continents and skyrocketing prices of food etc were shocking.WE ARE LUCKY. WE IN USA DON’T EVEN KNOW, WHAT INFLATION IS.Its global, all across.I pray, God keps everyone safe and secure.

  2. It amazes me how this subject becomes so removed in the minds of people to whom it is not immediately relevent in their environments. It seems that sometimes, we only are aware of “want” if we are the ones left wanting.

  3. I have been thinking so much about this lately, too.The other day Carlos asked me why I was so moody. Without thinking, I responded, “I don’t know. I guess because there’s nothing good to eat in the house.” — I immediately cringed realizing that the “undesirable” food that filled the pantry, fridge and freezer would be a miracle and a blessing – and enough to feed a small village. How spoiled we are.

  4. A great reminder. I was in the grocery store the other day and suddenly it just hit me how much food we have available and in such huge quantities, whenever we want it. I’ve taken it for granted so many times but I’m glad there are organizations out there that help you contribute in the smallest of ways to keep this awareness constant. Thanks for the links!
